Sculptor, designer, and professor Rony Plesl is a distinctive solitary figure in contemporary art and design. Thanks to the breakthrough Vitrum Vivum technology, invented at Jiří Šín’s glassworks, he creates monumental installations that have been exhibited at the British Victoria and Albert Museum, the Venice Biennale, and are currently on display in the Czech national pavilion at EXPO 2025 in Japan. In addition to his free work, he creates original designs for Czech clients (Moser, Bomma, Lasvit, Preciosa Lighting) as well as international ones (Cartier, Barovier & Toso, Paşabahçe, SAHM Gastro). He has received many world awards – Red Dot Design Award (Cleveland glass, Prague Kugel pitcher), Good Design Award (Erie glass, Daytom collection), Hospitality Design (Merkur chandelier for Preciosa), Czech Grand Design (Uovo chandelier for Lasvit, glassware for Moser) and the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic’s award – the Karel Kramář Medal. Since 2008, he has been the head of the Glass Studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, where he received a professorship in design and architecture. As an artistic director, he participated in the revival of the traditional Czech glassworks Rückl and currently works with the SIN brand.
